A Middle Eastern classic featuring crispy shredded kataifi pastry layered with gooey melted cheese and soaked in aromatic syrup. Garnished with crushed pistachios, this dessert is best served warm for a perfect stretchy texture.
Chef’s Tip: For extra crispiness, cook on low heat on the stovetop instead of baking.

Directions
- In a saucepan, combine sugar and water. Bring to a boil, then lower heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Add lemon juice and optional rose or orange blossom water. Set aside to cool.
- Place shredded kataifi in a large bowl and separate into small strands. Pour melted butter over and mix until well coated.
- In a greased baking pan, press half of the buttered kataifi to form an even layer.
- Spread shredded cheese evenly over the kataifi base.
- Cover with the remaining kataifi and press down gently to secure the layers.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 20–25 minutes until golden and crisp.
- Remove from oven and immediately pour cooled syrup over the hot kunafa. Let it rest for a few minutes.
- Garnish with crushed pistachios and serve warm.
